What
is Neuro Linguistic Programming?
Neuro-Linguistic Programming
(NLP) is based on the practical skills of how outstanding people
and good communicators, in any field, do what they do. It's about how
they learn, think, take action and get results.
It allows you to choose what to do in order to have and be what
you want.
What does
NLP Stand For?
N
= Neuro - How the brain takes in information, how the brain works.
L = Linguistic -
Language and the structure of language used.
P = Programming -
How we build and use what we have.
NLP & Hypnotherapy a Brief History
NLP was co-developed back in the
early 70s by Dr. John Grinder and Richard Bandler for the purpose
of coding the structure of human excellence. Together John & Richard
studied the work of several outstanding and effective therapists three
of the most famous being: Virginia Satir, well know family therapist author
of such books as Conjoint Family Therapy Published in 1964
and Satir Step by Step, A Guide to Creating Change in Families
Co authored by Virginia Satir & Michele Baldwin. Milton H Erickson,
world renowned hypnotist whose outstanding work continues today: Fritz
Perls, originator of Gestalt Therapy
Through working together and studying
these outstanding therapists John & Richard identified significant
patterns from their work and began to transfer these patterns to others
and across other contexts. It is through this work other studies developed
and applications of these patterns began emerging into other areas such
as business, training, sales and communications. *It is important to note
these additional and ongoing developments are very effective however they
are applications of NLP not NLP.
Hypnotherapy has been around and
used for hundreds of years. It is used to assist others in building self-confidence,
change habits, improve memory, end behaviour problems in children, eliminate
anxiety, fear, phobias and physical issues such as weight loss and stop
smoking. Most importantly in healing emotional change processes whilst
the client is in a hypnotic state with their mind open and receptive to
suggestions. More and more in todays world hypnotic language techniques
used in conjunction with well taught NLP practitioners can achieve outstanding
results faster and through free association both in business and personal
contexts.
Is Hypnotherapy dangerous?
NO.
In fact there are almost no risks when used by well trained professionals.
You cannot be made to do anything you do not want to do. Anything that
is against your moral values.
The only risk I am aware of would
involve falling asleep. If whilst in a relaxed state you are tired and
become too relaxed you may go from a hypnotic state to a normal sleep
state. Thats fine if you are planning on going straight to sleep
after the trance, but if you have other plans after a session or listening
to some hypnosis tapes you may want to set an alarm clock just in case.
Warning: Recommendation:
never listen to hypnosis tapes whilst driving or using heavy machinery.
