Assessment for the Next Generation NLP Practitioner Certification Program

All students attending the Next Generation NLP Practitioner or Master Practitioner Certification Program will be subject to assessment of their competencies as described in the Student Prospectus. While students will be invited to agree to undertake assessment it is understood that without assessment by a qualified trainer/assessor there is no evidence on which to award a certificate of qualification. At the end of NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner Training there are two days of practical integration and assessment, followed by a written conceptual evaluation which is to be completed within 12 months of the end of the training program. The assessment instruments are in alignment with the training.

That is:

  • They take place in a similar environment - the same training room if possible, or an approximately similar one.
  • They use the same media; interactive exercises, presentations, NLP processes as in the training.
  • They are designed to integrate the skills learned in the course.
  • They are designed to facilitate the transfer of learning to daily life and business.
  • They are designed to elicit unconscious competence with the material.
  • They are designed to facilitate generalised application of NLP to participants’ life environments.
  • They are designed to facilitate use of NLP patterns in participants’ own expressions of the patterns
  • They take place individually, in pairs, threes, or fours with the same participants as in the training as well as any repeaters who may be present.
  • They are conducted by the same trainers and at least one qualified assessor for the programme (who may or may not be one of the trainers).

    Assessment includes
    (1) a complete piece of work with a partner in the role of client
    (2) an impromptu presentation of six minutes on an NLP topic to be determined according to criteria set out below
    (3) participation in assessment exercises according to criteria set out below
    (4) a written conceptual evaluation which is given at the end of the practical assessment period. Participants have 12 months to complete the conceptual evaluation and may use any materials to assist them provided proper referencing and attribution is included with their answers.

Presentation Questions for NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner Assessment

Each candidate is required to make an impromptu presentation not exceeding six minutes in length. Individual presentations are selected from the following or written specifically for a participant to extend that participant’s experience or provide an experience for the group. The criteria for giving particular presentation topics are

  • The participant needs to develop expertise in the topic, or
  • The participant has particular expertise in the topic and the group would benefit from exposure to this expertise and
  • The topic is relevant to NLP Practitioner Training

A Complete Piece of Work of the "Client's" choice for NLP Practitioner& Master Practitioner Assessment

Working in pairs: Interview your "client", gather high quality information and establish how you want to make an intervention. You are recommended to continue gathering information until you have three options for your interventions. Before making an intervention discuss your ideas with a trainer or coach. Then return to your "client" and make the intervention(s)

Revision and Assessment Exercises for NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner Assessment

  • These exercises are written on cards with one exercise on each card.
  • The cards are handed out to participants face down.
  • Each participant will perform the exercise on their own card with another participant as their subject.
  • Participants work in pairs or groups of three.
  • One participant reads their exercise out loud to the class.
  • Another participant volunteers to be the subject of that exercise.
  • The responding participant reads their card aloud.
  • If the first participant is willing to be the subject of the second exercise the first and second participants pair up for the round.
  • When any participant receives a card they have had before they will be given a different card.

In the assessment exercises and complete piece of work it is assumed that as consultants, participants will

  • Establish and maintain rapport with their subject at all times,
  • Elicit a well formed outcome,
  • Gather high quality, relevant information,
  • Ensure that all outcomes and interventions are ecological for the subject,
  • Future pace their work into contexts of the subject’s choice,
  • Diverge from the specified exercise if there is evidence that different NLP interventions would be more suitable in obtaining the subject’s outcome.
  • Allow the subject to work content-free if they prefer
  • Attend to process and be prepared, with rapport, to limit the amount of content offered by the subject.

In the assessment exercises and complete piece of work it is assumed that as “clients”, participants will

  • Choose an outcome or content area to work with that they believe to be appropriate for the exercise and skill level of their partner,
  • Co-operate with the consultant and raise any questions or objections they have at the earliest opportunity,
  • Offer constructive feedback to the consultant during and after the process as appropriate,
  • Use the opportunity to further their own learning.
  • Choose whether to divulge content or work content-free.
